Assistive Technology training and support for Students and organisations supporting student’s who receive Disabled Student Allowance

From student to professional, I have had access to a range of Assistive Technology (AT) that has supported me throughout my educational journey and into my working life. That experience has shaped my commitment to helping the next generation of learners access the same opportunities. Whether through specialist training sessions or collaboration with organisations to improve understanding of AT, Power2AssistiveTech supports students who are entitled to Disabled Students’ Allowance (DSA) in developing the skills and confidence to use their technology effectively.

Power2AssistiveTech offers person-centred training that is tailored to each student’s individual needs, course demands and preferred way of working. This approach ensures that training is relevant, practical and focused on helping students become confident and independent users of their assigned AT. Support can be delivered through specialist sessions that build familiarity with essential tools, routines and study strategies, enabling students to apply technology purposefully across their academic work.

The range of AT support available includes:

  • Computer accessibility (Microsoft and iOS)
  • Voice recognition
  • Note-taking and recording
  • Text-to-speech
  • Research and referencing
  • Mind mapping
  • Spelling and grammar support
  • Task management
  • Maths support

These tools can support a wide range of academic tasks, including reading, writing, organisation, revision, planning and subject-specific learning. By matching technology to the student’s needs, Power2AssistiveTech helps remove barriers to learning and promotes greater independence, efficiency and confidence.

In addition to working directly with students, Power2AssistiveTech can work with organisations to raise awareness of the AT available to DSA-funded students. This can help strengthen understanding of inclusive practice and ensure that students receive informed, effective support at the right time.
